Gen. Michael X. Garrett became the 23rd commander of U.S. Army Forces Command March 21 during an Assumption of Command Ceremony on Fort Bragg, N.C., hosted by Army Chief of Staff Gen. Mark A. Milley. Forces Command, or FORSCOM, is the largest command in the U.S. Army, and it is the Army’s force provider to Combatant commanders worldwide. Past FORSCOM commanders and NCOs as well as current senior leaders from the command’s major units attended the ceremony along with members of the Fort Bragg and neighboring communities, such as Fayetteville, N.C. The command trains, mobilizes, deploys, sustains, transforms and reconstitutes conventional forces, providing relevant and ready land power in defense of the nation both at home and abroad. Forces Command tailors the resources and training of its units to meet the specific, and ever- changing requirements of Combatant Commanders. As commander of the United States Army’s largest organization, Gen. Garrett commands 215,000 active duty Soldiers, and provides training and readiness oversight of U.S. Army National Guard and U.S. Army Reserve. In total, the Forces Command team includes 745,000 Soldiers and 96,000 Civilians.
