Sgt. 1st Class Hammar is a soldier who works in 1st Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, of the 2nd Infantry Brigade Combat team. His hometown is Harrisburg, Pennsylvania where he attended Newport High School. Three of Hammar’s great grandfathers served in World War II. One served and died in Italy, one served in the Pacific, and one was a Basic Rifle Marksman instructor assigned in Maryland.
