Lt. Col Doug Downs, Fort Hood Garrison Chaplain, has been serving the Army for 20 years. He oversees the programs at the spiritual fitness center and works out of the garrison chaplain office.

With developments of different programs Chaplain Down believes in spiritual wellness and aiding others to feel peace within. Whether its providing a meal to families, childcare, or even finding a hobby for soldiers and community members like guitar playing, he provides stress management in ways other than prayer. Being spiritually fit helps you find wellness within and it spreads in other aspects like your physical well being. Finding that inner peace will assist in readiness.

The preparation process for your mission can be overwhelming, and Chaplain Down provides resources and tools to aid with the anxiety that comes with preparation. With resources like the the spiritual fitness center people can seek someone to vent to, child care to alleviate the stress of taking care of your family while working, and different classes to explore hobbies such as guitar classes as one of the ways to use skills as a stress reliever
