The 1st Infantry Division made history Sept. 30 by flying an unmanned aerial system for the first time in the Army in Federal Aviation Administration-controlled airspace. Soldiers from the 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, launched an RQ7-B Shadow UAS from Fort Riley along an approved air corridor and navigated it back utilizing national airspace.
