Major General Brian E. Miller

Chief of Staff U.S. Army Forces Command

Major General Brian Miller is a Pennsylvania native, originally commissioned as an Engineer Officer from Duke University.
Major General Miller served on active duty for five years: initially at Baumholder, Germany, with the 40th Engineer Battalion as a Platoon Leader, Company Executive Officer, and Battalion Adjutant. He also served as the Engineer Brigade Planner with the 1st Armored Division Engineer Brigade in Bad Kreuznach, Germany and in Tuzla, Bosnia as part of Task Force Eagle. He completed his active-duty tour as Assistant Brigade Engineer for the 20th Engineer Battalion at Fort Hood, Texas.

Major General Miller departed active duty in 1998 and joined the Army Reserve, where he served as a Civil Engineer on a Facility Engineer Team at Fort Dix, NJ and forward deployed to Bosnia. He served as the Operations Officer of the 1-98th Engineer Battalion (Schools) at New Windsor, NY and as an Adjunct Professor of Military Science at Rutgers University. He taught Intermediate-Level Education with the 11-80th Battalion and commanded the 3-385 Basic Combat Training Battalion at Edison, NJ. Major General Miller deployed to Iraq in 2004 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom where he advised the 1st Iraqi Engineer Regiment and helped build Iraqi Army engineer capabilities.

In 2014, he deployed to Kabul, Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. He advised Afghan Generals and staff on property construction and management. Upon his return, Major General Miller became the Reserve Deputy Commander (IMA) for the U S Army Corps of Engineers’ North Atlantic Division at Fort Hamilton, NY. His most recert assignments include Commanding General of the 416th Theater Engineer Command in Darien, IL. Deputy Commanding General-Reserve Affairs and Deputy Chief of Engineers, Reserve Component at the United States Army Corps of Engineers in Washington D.C. Deputy Commanding General-Operations 412th Theater Engineer Command in Vicksburg, MI. Commander, 302d Maneuver Enhancement Brigade in Chicopee, MA.

Major General Miller holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science from Duke University, from whence he was commissioned as a second lieutenant. He also holds masters degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Colorado State University, Business Administration from Harvard Business School, and Strategic Studies from the Army War College. He is a graduate of the Engineer Officer Basic Course, the Armor Officer Advance Course, the Combined Arms Services and Staff School, the Command and General Staff Officer College, and the U S Army War College.

Major General’s military awards and decorations include the Distinguished Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, NATO Medal, Combat Action Badge and Parachutist Badge.
He and his wife, Wendy, have three grown children.
