1st Annual Kids Poker Run

FT McPHERSON, GA. (June 20, 2006) - K.I.A.Kids will hold its 1st Annual Kids Poker Run July 8 to raise money for its scholarship fund for post-secondary education of children of service members who have been killed in action (KIA) or who are in an MIA (missing in action) or POW (prisoner of war) status.

The run will begin and end at the AMVETS Post 118, 4225 Veterans Memorial Hwy, Lithia Springs, with registration beginning at 10 am and the first run at 11:30 am.  Cars, trucks and motorcycles will be eligible to enter for a donation of $25 per hand and $10 per passenger.

Each participant will be given a playing card at the start of the run and another card at each of five stops where various entertainments will be available. The run will take about two hours or more depending on how long a player stays at each stop.  A last card at the finish will make up the hand.  The winner will receive $100.  The second place finisher will get $50 and third place finisher $25.

Free Coffee and donuts will be available before the ride and a $5 per plate barbeque, band music and beverages will be available at 5 pm after the ride.  A t-shirt will be given to those who participate.  More information is available at KIAKids.org or by calling 770-422-2627.

K.I.A. kids is a national non-profit organization dedicated to raising money for college educational grants.  It was formed by Atlanta area members of AMVETS, the 82nd Airborne Division Association, and the American Legion to fill the gap left by Veterans Administration Survivor Benefits in providing for a quality education.

Children of all services will be eligible for the grants.  Donations are tax deductible, and K.I.A. Kids will be a part of the Combined Federal Campaign next year.

A list of web sites of many organizations that provide scholarships for military children can be found at DOD web site:  www.americasupportsyou.mil/americasupportsyou/scholar_mil_children.html.
