1st. Sgt. Gunnar Chambers is originally from Two Rivers, Wis.  He joined the U.S. Army in November 1986 as a musician.

 

His first assignment was as a specialist with the 399th Army Band, Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.  In April 1991, he left active duty to return home to become an entrepreneur, opening his own tax consultation firm.  He remained in the Army Reserve, where he was promoted to sergeant and assigned to the 84th Division U.S. Army Reserve Band, Milwaukee, Wis.  In the fall of 1993, Chambers sold his successful business and returned to active duty in the U.S. Army.  In December 1993, he was assigned as a specialist with the 98th Army Band, Fort Rucker, Ala.

 

In October 1998, Chambers was reassigned as a staff sergeant with the 9th Army Band, Fort Wainwright, Alaska.  While assigned there, he served as a squad leader and an S-3 operations noncommissioned officer.  After his promotion to sergeant first class, he served as platoon sergeant, S-3 operations noncommissioned officer-in-charge and field first sergeant.

 

Chambers was reassigned to the 392nd Army Band, Fort Lee, Va., in October 2004, where he served as battalion S4 logistics noncommissioned officer-in-charge and platoon sergeant.  In February 2007, he was reassigned to the 3rd Infantry Division Band, Fort Stewart, Ga., where he again served as S4 logistics noncommissioned officer-in-charge and platoon sergeant. 

 

Upon redeployment from Operation Iraqi Freedom, Chambers was promoted to master sergeant and reassigned to The Army Ground Forces Band, Fort McPherson, Ga. where he served as logistics noncommissioned officer-in-charge and was later selected to serve as first sergeant in preparation for the band's move to Fort Bragg, N.C. 

 

1st Sgt. Chambers' awards include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with one oak leaf cluster, Army Commendation Medal with one oak leaf cluster, Army Achievement Medal with one silver oak leaf cluster and the 7th award of the Army Good Conduct Medal.
