Major General Johnson assumed responsibility as the Deputy Commanding General, ARNG, U.S. Army Forces Command, on 01 May 2023. Prior to his arrival to Fort Liberty,
he served as the Special Assistant to the Director, Army National Guard at Herbert R. Temple Jr. Army National Guard Readiness Center (TARC), Arlington, VA.

Major General Johnson's previous command assignments include: Commander, Security Force Assistant Advisor Team, 101st Airborne Division, RC-East, Fort Campbell, KY and OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM, Afghanistan 2012-2013; Commander, Headquarters, 26th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade & Homeland Response Force, FEMA Region 1, Natick, MA 2013-2015; Assistant Adjutant General, Joint Force Headquarters, Massachusetts National Guard, Hanscom Air Force Base, MA 2016-2017; Commander, Land Component Command, Hanscom Air Force Base,
MA 2017-2018; Deputy Commanding General (FWD), 101st Airborne Division, Commander, Task Force Southeast, AP Lightning, USFOR-A Fort Campbell, KY and OPERATIONS FREEDOMS'S SENTINEL, Afghanistan 2018-2019; Deputy Director, Army National Guard, Arlington, VA 2019-2020; Commanding General, Division West, First United States Army, Fort Cavazos (formerly Fort Hood, TX 2020-2022.

Major General Johnson completed Officer Candidate School and was commissioned, Military Police in July 1989 in the Massachusetts Army National Guard. Major General Johnson has deployed as a Platoon Leader, 972nd Military Police Company, OPERATIONS DESERT SHIELD/DESERT STORM, Kuwait, Iraq 1991; a Commander, 772nd Military Police Company, OPERATIONS ENDURING FREEDOM, Kabul, Afghanistan 2002-2003; and Commander, Headquarters, 211th Military Police Battalion, OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM, Iraq 2009-2010.

Major General Johnson holds a Bachelor's of Science from Salem State University, Masters Degree in Public Affairs from the University of Massachusetts, and Masters Degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Massachusetts. Major General Johnson's military education includes the United States Army War College, SSC Fellowship (Harvard Kennedy School); Joint Task Force Commanders Course (NORTHCOM); Harvard University, General and Flag Officer homeland Security Executive Seminar; and Harvard University and Senior Executive Fellowship.
